Learning Through Play:
Child development research has demonstrated that children learn as they play and interact with their physical and social environment. As children discover, create, experiment, construct, and interact with peers, they are developing concepts about the world. These concepts are reinforced in an environment where adults provide materials, activities, and support that take children from where they are and challenge them to move forward.

Our goals for children address all developmental domains: Social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and language. Teachers prepare the environment and plan activities that are meaningful to children, capitalizing on their strengths, and offering challenges. Children are encouraged to be active participants in their own learning. Allowing the curriculum to emerge from the students' interests and current developmental levels, teachers use a project based approach to planning activities involving math, science, cooking, art, music, drama, literacy, and large and fine motor development.

Children have opportunities to develop basic skills as they learn about their environment and local community. MECC has a school bus and licensed school bus driver on staff to take children and teachers on nearby field trips that serve to enhance learning through current project work.

Our goal is to ensure that when children leave our program they will be both, emotionally, and academically ready to be successful as they continue their education and development in the K-12 system and in the community.
